Children is a concept which appeared after modern age. Their existence was always excluded in adult-centered discussion on modernization. Such an attitude of study causes children to degrade into the existence unrelated to colonial experience. They were absolutely exclude in the colonization debates in such a situation that recognizes children only as the immature, not as children themselves. They existed solemnly with the adult. the female children of them were the most weak in their era.
This study illuminates the contemporary female children through the Korean fairy tale seen from the perspective of feminism. What are issues in feminism, such as sexism, role discrimination by sex, and ridiculing or violence, were equally included in the Korean fairy tale. The female children were the victims sacrificed by suppressive policy of the japanese imperialism and patriarchism.
The image of the female children is to be described as the following.
(1) The image of the female children caused by the extreme exploitation and suppression of the Japanese imperialism. The Japanese violence and suppression was equally applied to the female children to be protected as well as the adults. The female children had to support their family immature, and could not help being trampled under the foot of men, deprived of the least rights and hopes. It was an extremely violent policy of the Japanese. In this process, sensitive female children had to suffer growth difficulties and an extreme identity crises.
(2) The image of the female children forced to be sacrificed by confucius patriarchism in that time. Their society justified the injustice in the name of motherhood and love, which tied up the female to the long-established custom and exploited the female children with severe household duties. The generally accepted social idea applied to women were equally applied to the female children and forced them to live obedient lives.
I should think that this study has some meanings, giving an opportunity to see to the giant Japanese imperial power and the suppressive social structure by analysing the image of the female children with a fairy tale written in the colonization era.
Today also, the evaluation on women is not so positive enough. In order for male and female to exist as partners and share their lives anyway, the horizontal relationship is more to be important than the vertical one. The coming task is to embody the image of the female children living together, by recognizing and accepting the differency of two sexes crossing reason which give importance to the horizontal relationship. In that state, we will be able to pursue equal lives recognizing our own happiness and the righteous order of our community.
