That classical literature is cinematized and enjoyed by masses has affirmative meaning in that it may be new way out of classical literature in the crisis that the existence value and life power may be lost by being solid as the study material of researcher.
The classical literature to have laminating and open feature has continued the life power endlessly through the negotiation among genres in the turning point of literature history. And, since the beginning of today, it is continuing existence value and life power by being enjoyed to masses through media conversion.
Thus, it can be said that it is very important to study the movie-like reinterpretation aspect of classics and present the desirable direction of Korean literary confrontation to make classics into movie.
Since 1920 up to now diverse classics became movie. Then, classical novel became movie more positively. Out of them, life of <Choonhyang-Jeon> is counted as very successful example with the meaning of movie history. The reason why novel may be movie actively than any other classical genre is because of complete narrative structure. And, as recognition degree and popularity are high to masses in those days, much favorable response could be obtained in manufacturing as movie.
On the contrary, as for other genres including narrative, much dramatization is required in the course of making into scenario. Thus, there is much difficulty to seek the conversion into reflection material.
Nevertheless, many novels and narratives etc. are made into movie. So, until 1960s, 50 pieces or so. of classics were made into movie. This means that classical literature filled the blank of scenario for movie manufacture and that classics enjoyed by characters could continue life power by being transmitted to masses through new media to be reflection.
After 1960·70, tendency that classical literature is made into movie decreased remarkably. So, it is contrasted with the aspect that the works of modern writers are made into movie actively up to now. Because classics itself lost appealing power from masses, in comparison with the past period when the sensitivity of masses and that of classical literature agreed.
So, it is necessary to offer the source to the course of dramatization to scenario which is the basic stage for movie through data base of classical literature centering around classical researchers. It is necessary for classical researchers to present the diverse interpretation of classics objectively, and they should offer what literary truth and essence that these works are including are.
In addition, they should introduce and report the works which are unfamiliar to masses but which are meaningful literarily positively. Then, the base of these starts from presenting original form classics, so that making into scenario may be possible. Besides, work which is made into movie by making classics as original work may be understood as another form of classics. So, it is the portion of classical researcher to study classical work made into movie and find present meaning.
