This study looks at The Cordelia Dream, a play by Irish playwright Marina Carr, which changes the father-daughter relationship in King Lear and gives it a feminist and postcolonial point of view. The play does not just retell Shakespeare’s story but also asks questions about gender, power, and artistic control. This article attempts to put The Cordelia Dream in the context of how Irish drama deals with English influence. In King Lear, Cordelia’s silence is often seen as quiet dignity, but in Carr’s play, Woman’s silence states a refusal to accept patriarchy. The play shows Cordelia not as a symbol of obedience but as a person whose creativity was silenced. The father’s attempt to block his daughter’s artistic success can also be compared to how Irish identity was erased under British rule, making a connection between gender oppression and colonial oppression. The article asks if Cordelia’s sacrifice in King Lear is really heroic or just something that helps patriarchy continue. In the end, The Cordelia Dream imagines Cordelia’s story differently. It portrays a fight over power and self-expression. By looking at Cordelia’s story with a feminist and postcolonial angle, Carr rewrites Shakespeare and makes a place for Irish women’s voices in literature.
