This study focuses on a comparative analysis of the lexical meanings of the Korean verb 내리다 with the Myanmar verb ဆင း၁၁ည . Through this comparison, the study identifies shared semantic components between the two languages, as well as those unique to Korean and Myanmar, respectively.
The study identifies the shared semantic components such as "spatial movement (vertical, downward)," "termination or completion," and "transfer." Using dictionary examples, the study examines whether the verbs are interchangeable and share identical antonyms, and whether there are grammatical differences between the two languages.
Additionally, by analyzing corpus examples, the study investigates the differences in frequency and the nouns that commonly co-occur with each semantic component in both languages. The findings reveal that the semantic component of "spatial movement (vertical, downward)" in Korean is associated with a higher frequency of expressions related to "weather phenomena" and a greater variety of co-occurring nouns compared to Myanmar.
