This paper focuses on the structural discrimination and colonial conditions of the Okinawan Subaltern and how their proactive voice is possible. Despite the fact that Okinawans have been making their own voices heard in mainland Japan, their voices continue to be ignored. Under such circumstances, the number of war survivors and those who remember the war has drastically decreased, and the memory of the war is fading. In order to bear witness to the horrors of war and to remember the true meaning of peace, various methods of peace education and attempts to overcome the fading of memory are being undertaken. However, it will be difficult to make a significant impact on our current lives by simply passing on the history and memories of the past, or by seeking various ways to adapt them to the generation of young people. Therefore, I have tried to think about what it would take to achieve a sense of partyhood, of “becoming a party,” by making those of us living in the present aware of the memories of past wars as a crisis, rather than making them into the experiences of others. Partyhood is a generative subject that constructs a new relationship between me and others, and it is the power to make visible the invisible structures of oppression and aspects of damage. By acquiring a sense of partyhood, we can become participants in the work of remembering and passing on the meaning of past wars in the present day.
