The development of effective wound dressings is vital for enhancing skin regeneration in biomedical engineering. Among various biomaterials, extracellular matrices (ECMs) have been widely studied for their unique biochemical composition and structural characteristics, closely resembling the natural cellular environment. However, native ECMs can trigger immune rejection due to immunogenic components. Thus, acellular processing is crucial to remove these components while preserving the bioactive molecules and structural integrity of ECMs for biomaterial preparation. In this study, we developed a fish acellular matrix (FAM) as an ECM-based wound dressing and evaluated its potential for skin regeneration. The FAM showed no cytotoxicity and significantly promoted cell proliferation in vitro. Additionally, FAM was rich in fatty acids, which are known to benefit skin health and regeneration. In vivo experiments using a wound-defected animal model demonstrate accelerated wound healing and improved tissue regeneration. These findings highlight FAM as a promising biomedical material for skin regeneration applications.
