This study was conducted to study senior yoga to improve standing performance ability, and was conducted with the advice of two professors from a professional advisory group with experience in developing exercise programs and two yoga experts who have been teaching the general public and the elderly for more than 25 years in the field of sports. In order to improve the standing performance ability of seniors, yoga performance strategies were studied with the goal of strengthening posture stability, balance, core strength, lower body and spinal erector muscles.
As a result, first, the performance strategies of mountain pose and chair pose were presented as symmetrical base of support movements of standing posture. Second, the execution strategies of warrior posture 1 and warrior posture 2 were presented as asymmetrical base of support movements. Third, the execution strategy of tree pose and warrior pose 3 was presented as single-leg base of support movements. Fourth, we presented a strategy for performing the cobra pose and the forward bending pose with legs spread for flexibility and core activation. Fifth, we presented a strategy for performing leg raises and plank poses to enhance core stability and strength.
Through these modified movements, the elderly can receive the benefits of yoga more safely and effectively, and the performance strategies provided for this purpose are expected to be utilized as educational materials that can be easily followed in the field of elderly physical education.
