Laura y Julio and Le fait du prince were published respectively in 2006 and 2008 in Spain and France. In two works, similarly two men and a woman appear and the love triangle is formed. And the two protagonists experience the transition of identity with the other opposite man who has a completely different personality.
In this study we first investigate the determining elements of identity and then how the identity transition and the determining elements of identity reciprocate between the characters in two works by Juan José Millás and Amèlie Nothomb, with an age gap of 20 years.
It appears that while Millás tries to destroy the firmness of identity, Nothomb enjoys the liquidity of identity. And although there are some differences between two novels, these novels reveals the desire to be another person and the wish to live a different and better life. In addition, the indirect experience appears too, which is one of the purposes of reading the novel.
