The research is based on the theory of cognitive grammar. It focused on function’s identity and difference of particle ‘De’. According to Grounding Theory, ‘De’ is a grounding element related to the grounding of Noun Phrase or Clause. ‘De’ has a unified grounding function in all ‘De’ constructions. In the phrase of ‘X De Y’ or ‘X ‘De’, X is a reference and Y(which is implied in the ‘X De’ construction)is a target. In the clause of ‘X De Y’, ‘De’ connects speech time with event time. Speech time and event time also constitute a ‘reference-target’ relationship and ‘De’ means event time is before speech time. Particle ‘De’ in these three kinds of ‘De’ constructions mentioned above has a ‘objectivity grounding’ function. In the clause of ‘X De’, the psychological assurance of speaker is the reference which can locate the target X. In the clause of ‘X De’, ‘De’ has a ‘subjective grounding’ function, and reflects the speaker’s assurance of the content. In this construction, ‘De’ shows subjectivity of language. In addition, ‘De’ also reflects intersubjectivity of language which shows the attention of speaker for the listener. The theory of cognitive grammar makes the functions of ‘De’ in all ‘De’ constructions the same. It has a strong explanatory in explaining the function of Particle ‘De’.
