Xixiangyinmo 西廂引墨 is a manuscript copy of Xixiangji 西廂記 with commentaries written by Dai Wenshan 戴問善，who wrote commentaries in a view of directly relating plays to the creation of Baguwen 八股文 (the eight-legged essays) for the first time in the history of criticizing a dramas. He cautioned readers from deeply immersed in the contents of the work or the implications of the lines. The following three characteristics are shown in the commentaries in Xixiangyinmo. First，many of the commentaries are used to describe specific phrases in the work as specific examples of writing Baguwen. Second，rather than evaluating the particular phrases independentl y，Dai Wenshan wrote many commentaries that explain how the particular parts of the work related to other parts. Third，most of the commentaries are relatively easy and concise，and there are many basic explanations that summarize the lines briefly or explain the meaning of the specific words. Xixiangyinmo is an example of Jin Shengtan"s commentaries on Xixiangji having a great influence on readers even until the late Qing Dynasty. In many cases, while inheriting Jin Shengtan"s perspective，Dai Wenshan found the new technicalities of writing from his own perspective without following Jin Shengtan"s interpretation.
