This study examined the differentiation and development of labial initials in the literature by period and region based on the ‘scattered multiline sound change(散点多线式音变)’ model. This article first reconsiders the prior research on the development period of labial initials and regional issues, and highlights the limitations of the ‘one-line sound change(一线式音变)’ model for changes. Additionally, from the 6th century to the 11th century, it examines the occurrence of labiodental initials in the literature for each period, centering on Jinling(金陵), Luoyang(洛阳), and Chang’an(长安), etc. Further, it organizes the differentiation of labial initials and the process of labiodentalization by period and region. Finally, the development of labial initials is discussed from the perspective of the ‘scattered multiline sound change(散点多线式音变)’ model. Moreover, the ‘scattered multiline sound change(散点多线式音变)’ model further enhances the actual Chinese phonological change through comparison with the contents of discussions in the existing Chinese phonological history.
