The purpose of this article is investigating the voice of 'the Other' that has been distorted and concealed by male centered patriarchical viewpoint, by comparing Shel Silverstein's The Giving Tree and Moon Jung-Hee's 'the Cow.' Both 'giving tree' and 'the Cow' are same in that they symbolize the typical femininity. On the other hand, while Shel Silverstein describes the tree based on extremely male dominated view point, a female writer Moon Jung-Hee portraits the cow by exposing compassion and sorrow. In male-oriented view point, the 'tree' is depicted as a very romantic story that pursuits happiness through dedicated love. The story of cow in female view point is self-giving, sad and tragic. Both the stories have a theme of 'sacrifice.' However, while the Giving Tree beatifies it as a beautiful love, so tree was happy, 'the Cow' does not beautify or praise anything. It is the mother who was butchered and nothing left. By the name of mother, women are being forced to sacrifice and exploited for maintaining patriarchal system. Especially as an image of mother who breastfeeds and raises children, 'the Cow' is exploited by feeding and fattening men. This implicates that the mother and the cow are fundamentally the same, both were extremely exploited as 'the Other.' It will be the starting point for harmony and peaceful coexistence of all relationships that determine how 'the Other' which often called as the nature, animal, and women is described through male oriented perspectives. For doing this, the distorted and concealed voice of 'the Other' should be first be restored.
