In recent years, the study on the Buddhist priesthood of modern and contemporary Korean Buddhism has greatly increased. It contributes greatly to understanding the various histories of modern and contemporary Buddhism. However, there is a pity that these studies are limited to a few well-maintained Sangha families. Therefore, those who did not prosper or did not make great achievements are buried in history. In this reality, it is expected that the study of Bongam Wolju will help to improve the diversity of our modern and contemporary Buddhism. Bongam(1909∼1975) was a Buddhist monk who has experienced the history of modern and contemporary Buddhism. He was born in 1909 when the fate of the Japanese invasion state was disappearing, and it was a school life in the deprived country. From his youth, he has outstanding and sophisticated qualities. During high school, he was fought against distorted educational oppression and was forced into expulsion. Bongam took the path of the monk to overcome the oppression and domination of Japan. The relationship with Buddhism, which started at Baegyang-sa Temple, near the hometown, met with a master Baek Yong-seong and walked the path of a true Buddhist. Since then, he has continued to study and meditate in search of various temples such as the Naejang-sa, Hwa-eom-sa, Ssanggye-sa, Haein-sa Temple etc. After going through the Junghwa movement in the 1950s, he lived another life as a university professor and engaged in various educational and social activities. The purpose of this article is to empirically examine his life through the existing artifacts and data. Although there has been only one study on the subject so far, I have been able to get acquainted with various artifacts and materials from two temples. Based on this, I will organize and introduce his life, also consider the possibility of designating the remains of Bongam as national cultural properties.
