The purpose of this paper is to clarify the trend of Korean Buddhism in Japanese colonial era, the penetration status of Japanese Buddhism, and the characteristics of Chungnam Buddhism. The Buddhist community in Japanese colonial era was in a situation where national authority was invaded, but due to the disappearance of the Joseon Dynasty’s policy of suppressing Buddhism, a new phase was faced. Japanese imperialism facilitated the penetration of Japanese Buddhism while controlling and controlling the Korean Buddhist community by temple decree. The Buddhist community in Chungnam during this period is basically closely related to the current situation of the Korean Buddhist community, but the active activities of the Buddhist community were limited due to the uniqueness of this region, which was the center of study abroad in the late Joseon Dynasty. Nevertheless, examining the trends of the Buddhist community in Chungnam and the penetration of Japanese Buddhism can serve as an opportunity to understand the situation and activities of the Buddhist community in Japanese colonial era. The Buddhist community in Chungnam, Japanese colonial era Province, was divided into three periods: first, temple order and Buddhist reform (1910-1919), second, Buddhist independence and longitudinal establishment movement (1919-1935), and the establishment of the Chonghansan Construction and Jogye Order (1935-1945). The current state of Japanese Buddhism penetration during this period was examined, focusing on the official gazette of the Japanese Government-General of Korea, and through this, the impact of Japanese Buddhism on the Chungnam region was examined. Through these contents, we tried to identify the characteristics of Chungnam Buddhism during the Japanes colonial era.
