The separation between the Holiness movement and Pentecostalism has lasted more than a century. After the beginning of this new movement, there was a rise in polemical literature, meaning the religious newspaper articles and theological treatises written by both sides (Holiness and Pentecostal) were “fighting words” and increased the distance between the two movements. Although scholars and religious leaders outside the two movements (Holiness and Pentecostal) cannot discern the differences between the two, the new teaching of Spirit baptism and tongues as its initial evidence caused a division that began to differentiate the two movements. From Topeka the movement spread west to Los Angeles and then to the Far East (Asia). Four books of polemical literature (two from each side) are considered as a way of understanding the divisive rhetoric. Finally, a conclusion is offered that suggests both global Evangelicalism and world Christianity as means of dialogue and reconciliation.
