Since the 1980s, the reform of China's political and economic systems together with the collision between and fusion of Western and Chinese cultures have inspired artistic creation greatly and changed our visual experience and way of being, which has also brought about the complex and diverse formation of Chinese Pop Art. In Chinese Pop Art, we often see the appropriation of classical works and images or the absorption and transformation of previous works, and such way of creation is known as "intertextuality" in terms of textual theory. Intertextuality has become an important means of creation in contemporary Chinese Pop Art. Starting from the expressive techniques of intertextuality, this paper firstly goes through concepts related to intertextuality theory in general terms, and present three types of expressive techniques of intertextuality: ready-made appropriation, collage integration and mechanical reproduction, pointing out how these methods are related to the artists' emotional expressions and creative themes through the application of . Secondly, for the lineage of Chinese Pop Art, we summarize three stages of development: themes of leaders and the "Cultural Revolution", themes of popular culture and commodity culture, and themes of traditional culture. The change and development of the intertextual techniques with respect to different themes will also be discussed. Finally, we will analyze the intertextual techniques in the works of artists Li Shan, Wang Guangyi and Wei Guangqing in detail. The purpose of this research paper is to explore how the artist creates their works by appropriating, collaging and images reproduction from classic Chinese works in order to revive and recreate Chinese political and cultural symbols in modern artistic expressions by analyzing the role of intertextuality in Chinese Pop Art. The results of the study show that Chinese Pop Art carries China's unique historical imprint and is a distilled expression of China's political change, history and culture, and economic development. Constantly changing as the subject matter of Pop Art is, intertextuality has become an important approach for artists to express their ideas, not only in terms of the artists' cultural aspirations, but also arousing the audience's concern and reflection on their own culture and social reality.
