This study examines the realization of the determiner, 'ireon(like this),' in spoken and written Korean, and analyzes its semantic function based on the discovery. First, the characteristics of the realization environment and realization form are analyzed, and then the study delves into how the referential aspects in spoken and written Korean are in detail, and how they work to bind a discourse. In order to explain the difference between ‘ireon’ and ‘geureon(such)’ in spoken and written Korean, the Sejong Spoken Corpus, an analysis data, is used as it includes the previous study on ‘geureon.’ It can be confirmed that ‘ireon’ appears more often in spoken Korean than in written Korean, and that public/private discourse situations have a greater influence than the factors of dialogue/monologue. Mostly, its referents appear in the context of one’s utterance, and there are many cases of referents in sentences. Some on the spot references appear in referential usages, but most of them appear as context references. In ‘quasi-referential usage,’ which has a referent but appearing as an unordered expression, there are many cases of ‘ireon’ used with ‘mwo(what)’ and ‘mak(so much)’ and there appear many types of usages as citations and alternative types of ‘gateun(such as).’ It binds the discourse loosely but clearly as a categorical reference, and binds the discourse by being influenced by the interaction of the participants and the real-time discourse situation. In addition, ‘ireon’ is also used to reveal the speaker’s attitude, and at times it appears because of the communication method dependent on auditory input. In spoken Korean, 'geureon' is used more than 'ireon'. While 'ireon' is greatly influenced by public/private situations, 'geureon' is strongly influenced by conversation/monologue situations. It means that while 'ireon' has many usages for the continuation of one's own utterance, 'geureon' has many usages related to the continuation of discourse in the interaction process. The fact that the possibility of omitting 'geureon' is higher than that of 'ireon' and that the form of 'geureon geo(such as that)' is used more than 'ireon geo(such as this)' indicates that the change in meaning and function of 'geureon' is more active in discourse than ‘ireon.’
