This study is aimed to critically analyze educational contents about social welfare and welfare institutions in the Society and Culture textbooks based upon the 2015 revised curriculum, examining contents concerned with characteristics of social assistance, social insurance and social service from viewpoints of theories of social welfare and present situations of welfare institutions in Korea. On the ground of theories of social welfare and analytic framework suggested by Gilbert and Terrell, the analyzed textbooks reveal some theoretical and empirical problems. With regard to social allocations of welfare, types of social provisions to be allocated, strategies for the delivery of such provisions and methods of financing welfare institutions, contents in the five authorized textbooks show that theories of social welfare and the social welfare situation in Korea are partly inconsistent. The results of this study lead to the suggestion that a revision of contents regarding welfare institutions is necessary for the students to precisely understand them and their changes in both theoretical and empirical senses.
