The Battle of Bongodong, which took place on June 7, 1920, was a great victory over the Imperial Japanese Army based on the anti-Japanese armed struggle that accumulated in Manchuria and Gando areas for more than 10 years after the annexation treaty between Korea and Japan in 1910. Until now, the historical view has generally recognized the Battle of Bongodong only as a place where Independence Army had won against the Imperial Japanese Army. However, Bongo-dong was an independent military base built based on the wealth accumulated by the Choi Jin-dong and Choi Un-san brothers who moved around 1909, and the victory of the Bongo-dong Battle was a result of thorough preparation for years. In particular, the Daehanbukrodokgunbu(大韓北路督軍府), which was formed on May 19, 1920, was a united independence army formed based on the economic power of the Choi Jin-dong and Choi Un-san brothers. Unfortunately, however, there are few historical records of the Bongo-dong Independence Army military base, and it has been handed down through the memories of a small number of Independence Army and their descendants. As a result, Bongo-dong was recorded in history as a “battle space” that has been plastered in many memories, and it is urgent to re-evaluate Bongo-dong as an “Independence Army military base.” Based on the memoirs of the Independence Army that participated in the Battle of Bongodong, the testimonies of the bereaved families of Choi Jin-dong and Choi Un-san and satellite images, the traces and scale of the Independence Army military base built in Bongo-dong could be identified and a new approach and evaluation could also be provided. Through this, it was revealed that the victory of the Battle of Bongodong, which took place on June 7, 1920, was an inevitable victory achieved through the efforts of the brothers Choi Jin-dong and Choi Un-san.
