This article examines the temple name(廟號) of Taejong(太宗) of Silla(新羅) and the ritual of Iltong-samhan(一統三韓). Taejong is a name of jojong(祖宗) given according to virtue(功德). Taejong is a tablet that is celebrated forever(不毁廟). Jongmyo Shrine(宗廟) started during King Taejong Muyeol. Therefore, Taejong is the temple name. In 662, King Munmu performed the coronation ceremony. At this time, King Muyeol was given the temple name called Taejong. That means King Taejo(太祖)'s legitimate successor. In 668, King Munmu conquered Goguryeo(高句麗). This was reported in the Seonjomyo(先祖廟). At this time, King Taejong was given credit for Iltong-samhan. Iltong-samhan means to unify the world(天下) called Samhan. And Kings of Silla was the emperor(天子) of Samhan and a servant(諸侯) of the Tang Dynasty. Through this process, Silla's Jongmyo Shrine was able to establish itself as a place where state rituals were held.
