In this paper, we paid attention to the sense of war as a poet and sculptor in Kotaro Takamura’s penance poem “Angusyoden” (1947.7), and looked at how the sense of war was formed and expressed during the war period. Kotaro’s question of responsibility for the war has been discussed by many commentators from the postwar period to today. There is a theory in Korea, but there are few, and likewise, the discussion related to his war responsibility is the main one. Given that “Angusyoden” is a work centered on language text, it was rare to analyze poetry from various angles in the future and clarify the consciousness or era of poets as well as poetry based on this. Therefore, based on such previous studies, this article reexamines Kotaro’s sense of war as a poet and sculptor from the perspective of a poet (sculptor) and Japan (people), that is, individual and countries. Specifically, first, the situation and purpose of asceticism are examined in the postwar departure as a poet. Second, we examine the establishment of a sense of war between poets and Japanese, focusing on the ‘Home’ that appeared in the confession in the work. Third, we look at the antinomy of ‘to abandon a poem to write peom’ during the war period. Divided into the war period and the postwar period, we examine the truth of the confession.
