In this paper, the truth of confession was examined through the meaning of ‘modulation’ in Takamura Kotaro’s postwar penance poem “Angusyouden” (1947.7). Modulation and beliefs as poets and sculptors are manifested through ‘cicada’, a common object of poetry and sculpture. For poet and sculptor Kotaro, ‘cicada’ shows that he appears as an ego and another ego as an object of poetry and sculpture, and appears in the form of assimilation after escaping from Japan. ‘break from the Japanese’ has been steadily attempted through poetry, but as Kotaro himself knows, it was possible with the consciousness of ‘break from the Japanese’ from him, but it was impossible by action. The postwar penance poem written after the defeat of the war can be evaluated as a confession as a poet and sculptor for Japan (Japanese) by showing a disconnected appearance from the outside.
