In this study, I selected 7 works by Kenzaburo Oe in the 1950s and collected 16 Korean translations of them. I checked the foreign words, proper nouns, animal and plant names, semantically equivocal parts, and so forth, and analyzed the problems in translation. The results can be summarized in the following manner. First, the latest translations are excellent. Second, the following eight principles are necessary for Korean translation : ① foreignization + self- nationalization, ② literal translation + stylistic maintenance, ③ readability + free translation, ④ simplification, ⑤ unification, ⑥ appropriate speaking style in conversational sentences, ⑦ simplification, and ⑧ Korean correct orthography (foreign word notation, word-separated writing). Third, I presented the more natural Korean translations. Fourth, I made lists of mistranslations and frequently used katakana expressions.
