This study examines how grammar items in the English section of the Korean College Scholastic Ability Test (KCSAT) were given last 9 years. Since 2018, the criterion-referenced test (CRT) and the absolute grading scale (AGS) system have been introduced. As one of three- points test items in the English section, the grammar item is given to the students to test their abilities of analyzing the structure of English sentences and using the proper English grammatical knowledge. To investigate this purpose of the grammar item, 26 grammar questions were collected from both the KCSAT and trials for the KCSAT, which are executed in June and September each year. Analyses of quantitative data provided meaningful results as follows. First, analysis on test items showed that the frequently revealed grammar contents were (i) subject-verb number agreement, (ii) relative pronouns, (iii) present/past participle, (iv) pronouns, and (v) active/passive voice in descending order. Second, among the 26 right answers (i) relative pronoun, (ii) structure of sentence, (iii) active/passive voice hold largest portions in order. The results show that the grammar items have been focused on specific structures in English grammar.
