This thesis tried to discuss the generation theory that appeared in Kim Dong-in"s novels after liberation by paying attention to Kim Dong-in"s novels during the liberation period, which had not received much attention compared to the 1920-30s. The image of youth in Kim Dong-in"s novels during the liberation period is somewhat different from the major discourses on youth in contemporary society. In the liberation period, the society called the youth of the time a “pure” nation-building leader, but in reality, the young obeyed the older generation and performed the dirty work on their behalf. What is noteworthy is that the generation theory in Kim Dong-in"s novels during the liberation period is not the ideal youth image based on the mainstream discourse of the time, but is similar to the real youth mobilized by the older generation.
Kim Dong-in privileged the colonial experience of the older generation through ‘Song Cheomji.’, ‘Student Soldier"s Record’, and ‘Kim Deok-soo’ while representing the younger generation as the national disgrace, positioning the older generation as the enlightener of the young. Kim Dong-in"s generation theory can be said to have an inherent intention to move away from the core of the problem of cooperation with Japan by turning the problem of cooperation with Japan into a problem of generations. Furthermore, Kim Dong-in"s generation theory during the liberation period is also related to the situation of the liberation period, which required the formation of a new identity. Kim Dong-in, who could not return to national identity due to the cooperation problem with Japan before the anti-communist system becomes serious, actively used generation identity to anchor in history.
