The aim of this study is to investigate inter-physio constructions in English and to find out how the choice of prepositions is made between five types of prepositions. Inter-physio constructions in English are transitive event constructions with a subject and an object that contains a part of the human body. Five types of prepositions are used when splitting an object that contains a part of the human body into a pure object and a part of the human body. The five types of prepositions are on, in, by, around, and to. This study provides empirical criteria to determine how to use the five prepositions correctly on the basis of an empirical survey with native speakers of English and Koreans with high English competence. The results of this study will show that the choice of each preposition is based on the semantic properties of constructions: momentary slight inter-physio constructions use on; momentary strong inter-physio constructions use in; durational inter-physio constructions use by; durational circular inter-physio constructions use around; metaphorical inter-physio constructions use to.
