This paper investigated the names and geographical features of Songhua River(Songhari River in the past, Sunggari River in Baek Seok’s Poem) in the northern region from Korea and recognition on it. Flowing along Jilin and Heilongjiang provinces in China, Nei Menggu Zizhiqu(Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region) and Russia, Songhua River is nearly 2,000km long from its origination from Baekdusan mountain until the area meeting Heilongjang River. It runs nearly 3,000km to East Sea after meeting Heilongjiang River(Amur River) and Ussuri River. It is the stream called as one of three greatest rivers in the world. The analysis results are described below. First, Songhua River, the official name at present, was named during Ming period for the first time. The stream was called in several names depending on the times and races living along it. This paper summarized the types and history of the names in brief to reduce any further confusion on its names among researchers. Next, this paper also examined the impact by political change from Liao period to Qing period. The cadastral management was started on Songhua River with the foundation of Qing dynasty. It was closely related to territorial awareness. the position of Songhua River and interest on it were separately investigated on the viewpoints of Korea. While Songhua River area was the main stage of Korea in the ancient history of Korea, the relevant countries were collapsed without leaving any definite achievement. Thus, the area was forgotten in our history and so was not included in the cadastral management by Korea. The awareness of the intellectuals during Goryeo and Joseon period on Songhua River was indirect and conceptual based on the literature of China. Rapid change of history, exponential increase of population and change in international relationship diversified the humanistic configuration of simple and quiet Songhua River. Further study needs to investigate it.

이 글은 한국 기준 북방의 지리 공간 중에서 松花江(옛 이름은 松阿里江, 백석의 시에서는 숭가리강)의 이름과 지리 형세, 그리고 이에 대한 인식을 검토한 결과이다. 송화강은 현재 중국의 길림성과 흑룡강성, 내몽골자치주와 러시아에 걸쳐 흐르는, 백두산에서 발원하여 흑룡강과 만나기 전까지의 길이만도 거의 2000km에 이르며, 흑룡강(아무르강) 및 우수리강과 만나 동해로 들어가기까지의 거리를 합하면 3000km에 가까운, 예로부터 천하 3대 강의 하나로 일컬어진 물줄기이다. 논의의 주요 내용과 의의를 간추리면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 현재의 공식 명칭인 송화강은 명대에 처음으로 등장한 것이며, 이 물줄기는 시대와 민족에 따라 여러 이름으로 불려졌다. 본고에서는 개략적으로나마 명칭의 유형과 계보를 정리했는데, 이는 향후 연구자들의 혼란을 줄여줄 것이다. 둘째, 遼에서 淸에 일의 색채로 물드는 양상도 일부 살펴보았다. 결과 청의 건국을 계기로 송화강에 대한 지적 관리가 시도되었는데, 이는 강역 의식과 밀접한 관련이 있음을 확인하였다. 셋째, 한국사의 관점에서 송화강의 위상 및 그에 대한 관심을 따로 떼어 살펴보았다. 송화강 유역은 한국 고대사의 중심 무대였지만 해당 국가들은 변변한 기억을 남기지 못한 채 사라졌고, 이후 우리의 영역에서 멀어진 것은 물론 지적으로도 관리되지 못하였다. 고려와 조선 지식인의 송화강 인식은 모두 중국의 문헌에 기댄 간접적이고 관념적인 것이었다. 급격한 역사의 변동과 기하급수적인 인구 증가, 그리고 국제 관계의 변화 등으로, 소소하고 단순하던 송화강의 인문 형상은 시대와 시각에 따라 매우 다채롭게 만들어졌는데, 이를 살피는 것은 후속 과제이다.
