In this thesis, we analyze the contents of "Edomeishoki" which introduces Edo sites in early times and then considered meaning and character of famous place examing the change process of the traditional Edo sites by comparing them with the various guide maps made after this. According to analyzing the 80 kinds of famous place included in "Edomeishoki", we were able to obtain the following results by examining the largest number of temples, shrines, mountains, and ponds. First, the explanation of famous place in "Edomeishoki" emphasizes on historical facts and "Waka" works. However, in case of later guide map of famous place, It skips or abbreviates the historical description of the famous place or the old song like "Waka" and begins to increase explanation about beautiful scenery or the natural things (cherry blossoms, lotus flowers, birds, moon, snow) . Second, "Edomeishoki" introduces the origins or begining of the place rather than the events held in temples and shrines. However, It adds up illustration or active explanation about various events and actual spots after that. Third, "Edomeishoki" expresses a lyrical atmosphere using Waka or Monogatari during introducing the famous places. However, the guide after "Edosudume" shows a more lively famous place through Haiku works that were popular at the time. In the mid-17th century, Traditional Edo attractions Ryoi introduced have to be important characters and history like Utamakura style. In the meanwhile, later Edo attractions were expanded as places to enjoy relaxation and amusement through experience or eating by themself surpassing boundaries of general events done by temples and shrines, the surrounding natural scenery.
