Neurotheology is an academic study based on the origin of God and religion based on brain science and tries to unearth the relationship between brain and the psychology of the mind with soul, consciousness, divine nature, and spirituality. To extend its scope, Neurotheology also includes scientific research explaining religious experiences, transcendence, salvation, origin of religion which used to be explained abstractly and ideologically. This article reflected on the possibility of dialogue about brain science and theology by reviewing research results and trends of Neurotheology. Brain scientists, for example: Newburgh said that religious impulse is in the brain; Gazzaniga claimed that religion is fiction; and Persinger named the temporal lobe ‘Got spot’ after experiment and design the ‘God helmet.’ They are sure that if there is no brain, human's divine nature and belief and spirit can’t exist. Through the experimental reason saying brain imaging of SPECT and RSME, it is just scientific reality that is biologically able to observe. But according to Vandenberghe, theologian John Hickory, and Uppsala University’s research, the premises of theologians are that the brain is only substance and RSME is the results of electrical and chemical action that have not been able to suggest clear scientific sources. Lee Gil-young claims that what brain scientists were missing is a cultural-historical context of religion and says that brain science will be able to request a ‘new enlightenment project’ cooperating with theology in the future and to be connected as a chance bringing ‘co-evolution’ between theories of theology and brain science. The writer trusts his understanding of Neurotheology and asks that you consider the issue and the discussion of brain science and theology and of the change of non-reductive sight.
