The purpose of this study was to research and develop a high school English class using both the Hearts-on technique and its corollary, a focus on literature. In the literature review, we examined what criteria constitute goals of Competency and Big Idea comprehension in the 2015 revised curriculum. We also shared the importance of PCK (Pedagogical Content Knowledge) to shift to new paradigm of English education. We proposed a new framework based on the Hearts-on concept. A Hearts-on based English class can encompass the demands of new national curriculum as well as English teachers' needs in the midst of the current 4th industrial revolution. Literature focused English classes in high-schools can give some direction of new paradigm of English education. We found a good English class focusing on literature and using Hearts-on activities in Incheon. We analyzed the literature centered high school English class in fine detail focusing on Hearts-on English education. Hearts-on based English classes can contribute to students’intellectual and moral development as global citizens in a democratic community, and contributes to the values and a sense of ownership for the work they do. In further studies, more diverse English classes based on Hearts-on and Literature Centered PCK at other types of schools, including middle schools and even elementary schools, can be researched.
