Since the FTA with China, Korea’s biggest trade partner as of 2015, which became effective on December 20, 2015, Korea has now completed FTAs with the three biggest economies in the world: the European Union, the United States, and China. These FTAs will be stepping stones for the country to be an FTA hub. An FTA, in principle, grants preferential treatments to its member countries by eliminating or reducing tariffs for them, which, in turn, makes it discriminatory against non-members. Therefore, there has not been any comprehensive theory on the effect of FTAs on FDI. Nevertheless, considering that geographically adjacent countries with strong trade ties between them tend to share bigger benefits of economic integration, the Korea–China FTA is forecasted to have more positive than negative effects on the Korean economy. This study, in this regard, is meaningful as it suggests practical plans to increase foreign investments by studying the Korea–China FTA in terms of the FTA strategy, terms of the agreement, and the significance of the conclusion of the deal.
