The purpose of this study was to identify in detail how actor’s speech objective affects utterance final intonation through phonetic experiments. This study set up ‘Algu sipeo?’ in a drama work, Jinheuk (Mud), as speech content, and designed three speech objectives., this study confirmed pitch realization patterns of the Korean sentence final suffix ‘‐eo’ appeared differently according to the three speech objectives. It means that realization patterns of utterance final intonation fully depend on speech objectives. Realization patterns of various utterance final intonations according to objectives as above not only show that utterance final intonations perform grammatical functions but they express speaker’s emotions as well. Thus, simple directives like ‘make a high pitch in intonation, make a low pitch in intonation’ cannot be an efficient education method for actor’s disposal of suffix. These teaching‐learning methods ultimately would make it impossible to embody actor’s ‘genuine voice.’ Accordingly, actors should not deliberately adjust utterance final intonations, and especially educators should not induce learners to derive conscious adjustment of suffix processing with simple directives If the actor wants to have realization of free utterance final intonations, it is important to clarify speech objectives of all things. In actual education fields, it is necessary to perceive the importance of objectives in order for learners to approach texts with a ‘genuine voice.’ There should be improvement of teaching‐learning methods from adjusting height of suffix final syllables with simple directives to perceiving the importance of speech objectives, and based on that, it is necessary to present narrative skills in detail applicable to actual education fields.
