This study aims to analyze the theory of multiculturalism, focusing on the German film Angst essen Seele auf. Due to influence of globalization people have consciousness of the world as whole. Thus the constraints of geography on social and cultural arrangements recede. Every country has confronted multicultural phenomena and has had to face up to reality which dissonance and non-uniformity dominate. The single-race nation and the homogeneous nation as the mainstream will maintain their cultural identities and exclude the identity of the minor groups in their communities. Therefore man experiences the collision of cultures and many acts of violence. In the USA as a typical multicultural country, the theory of the “melting pot” has emerged as a solution to the disharmonious society. However the concept of the melting pot has failed because the heterogeneity of the minor groups is not recognized. So the theory of the “salad bowl” is accepted for the multicultural society in which heterogeneous elements are harmoniously mixed. Multicultural community reaches forward to mutual recognition, interdependence, and mutual benefit. The film Angst essen Seele auf gives lesson for the multicultural community. Korea and Germany have already been societies where multi races and cultures are dominant. Now it is the time to change the mind for successful multicultural societies where all diversity is respected and uniformity is avoided.
