The Experience story is an indicator of the changing Storytelling-Site of modern times. Thus, although the mystery, legend, and folk tales have been included in the oral prose until now, it is time to study the Experience story as daily oral stories. The Experience story is mainly about the story of the narrator. When the essence of literature is the product of fiction and imagination, the Experience story cannot be literature because it is a story of fact. But in Storytelling-Site of modern times, increasing Experience story draw attention to its literary character. ‘Doggaebi stories’ is a typical fictional story in a folk tales tradition. But ‘Doggaebi stories’ is not a fiction but a story of fact. In the Storytelling-Site of modern times where the transmission of tales is weakened and the Experiences story is increasing, the story of the ‘Doggaebi-Fire Watch’ type, which is a story of fact, is actively transmitted because it is an Experience story. Nevertheless, the reason why ‘Doggaebi stories’ have been studied in the field of folk tales so far is that Experience stories are not included in the branch of the oral prose. It is the literality that is important for Experience story such as ‘Doggaebi stories’ to be studied in the field of the oral prose. Could it be literal, as Terry Eagleton argues, 'The essence of literature is not to be defined, anything can be literature, and anything that is considered unchanged and undoubtedly literary can no longer be literature' is not a question of the truthfulness of the content of the story, but of the perceptions of those who deal with it. Even if it is a story of the facts based on the narrator's experience, it can be a literary shaping and can be studied in the range of literature if it brings a literary image to the listeners.

경험담은 현대의 변화된 이야기판의 양상을 보여주는 지표다. 따라서 지금까지 구비 산문의 영역에서 신화․전설․민담으로 3분류되어온 설화 외에 일상 구술담으로서의 경험담에 대한 연구 역시 필요한 시점에 와 있다고 할 수 있다. 경험담은 화자 자신이 직접 보고 겪은 내용이 주가 되는 이야기다. 문학의 본질을 허구와 상상의 산물이라고 한 문학의 개념에 의하면 사실에 대한 구술인 경험담은 문학연구의 대상이 될 수 없었다. 하지만 이야기판에서 일상 구술담화인 경험담의 증가와 설화 전승의 약화는 경험담의 문학적 성격에 주목해야할 필요성을 제기하고 있다. 도깨비담은 우리의 설화적 전통에서 허구의 민담을 대표하는 이야기 유형이다. 하지만 도깨비담은 허구의 이야기지만 오히려 사실의 경험담적 성격이 더욱 강하다. 설화 전승의 약화와 경험담의 구연이 증가하는 현대의 이야기판에서 사실의 이야기인 ‘도깨비불 보기’ 유형의 이야기가 활발히 전승되고 있는 것도 경험담으로서의 도깨비담의 특성을 여실히 보여주는 것이라고 하겠다. 하지만 이러한 특성에도 불구하고 지금껏 도깨비담이 민담의 영역에서만 연구되어온 것은 구비 산문의 갈래에 경험담이 포함되지 못했기 때문이다. 도깨비담과 같은 경험담이 구비 산문의 영역에서 연구되어지기 위해서 중요한 것은 그것의 문학성 여부다. ‘문학의 본질은 규정되어질 것이 아니기에 그 어떤 것도 문학이 될 수 있고, 변함없고 의문의 여지없이 문학으로 여겨지는 여하한 것도 더 이상 문학이 아닐 수 있다’는 테리 이글턴의 주장과 같이 문학일 수 있느냐는 이야기에 담겨진 내용의 진실성 여부가 아니라 그것을 대하는 사람들의 인식과 관련된 문제다. 화자 개인의 경험에 입각한 사실의 이야기일지라도 그것이 청자들에게 문학적 형상화를 불러일으킨다면 문학 작품이 되는 것이고 문학의 영역에서 연구될 수 있는 것이다.
