The purpose of this study is to present new directions and tasks of the elementary and secondary English education in Korea. Due to the rapid developments of science and technology in the contemporary society, the government needs to predict social changes and prepare for the future education. This study introduced the Korean educational changes in the six future mega trends: demographic changes, exponential growth of information, evolving sophistication of science and technology, changes in economic and social structure, sustainable development, and various life styles and perspectives. Resulted from the delphi survey, it found that the future social changes would influence the educational goals, teaching/learning methods, and curriculum of the elementary and secondary English education. The English educational goals should emphasize ESP(English for Specific Purpose) education, foster language skill-focused education, and reinforce character/moral education, and promote personalized learning. The English teaching and learning method should make the most of digital technology and blended learning by using digital textbooks and VR or AR based experiential learning. This study suggests the educational implications for the future English education policies.
