This study aims to develop a piano education program with ballet for arts high school students who major in piano. This program is composed of 6 sessions considering the educational conditions of arts high school and focused on essential skills that must be performed in piano practice: legato, rubato, tempo, pedaling and dynamics. In addition, the goal of the program was to improve piano performance and musical expression, and to improve the learning effect by connecting it with the texture of ballet. In the first session, learning the concept of ballet class motion and dealing with the connection with music and video. The second session is about legato and rubato, improving a musical expression of the slow three-beat system and using the depth of port de bras and allonge. For the third session is the time to train maintaining the stable tempo, introducing the regular characteristics of ballet classes movements to connect the education of tempo stability. The fourth period is a pedaling exercise time for expression of music, and dealt with various pedal techniques in conjunction with the change of accents position of motion and the sense of space, weight and phrase of motion. The fifth session is about the technique for expressing dynamics, and it is connected to the training of high-level performance by using the characteristics of small-scale delicate movements and large-scale strong movements. Finally, the sixth session is a wrap-up time for finishing the program, including checking each session’s contents and discussion on the possibility of development. The ultimate purpose of learning for students majoring in piano is to grasp the composer’s intentions and play them based on the correct musical interpretation. However, there are parts that are difficult to express only with interpretation and technique. The educational program presented in this study will help improve the delicate and rich expression as well as the cultivation of piano techniques by introducing the sensibility of ballet into music. I hope that various teaching methods that incorporate visual arts will continue to be developed and studied in the future, and hope that the program will be used as a useful educational material for piano majors in arts high schools who intensively train piano skills.
