The aim of this study was to investigate the association between intake of plant foods (fruits + non-starch vegetables) and the prevalence of periodontal disease in the elderly 65 years and older as part of a study on the diet of the elderly. A total of 4,514 subjects aged 65 years and older participated in a dental survey, health behavior interview, and 24-hour dietary recall survey. Subjects whose energy intake was less than 500 kcal or more than 5,000 kcal were excluded.
