Sarcopenia is a condition in which muscle mass and strength are reduced. There are various causes of sarcopenia, including the long-term administration of glucocorticoids. The glucocorticoid, dexamethasone (Dex) decreases the expression levels of gene involved in protein synthesis (Akt and mTOR) and increases the expression levels of gene involved in protein degradation (myostatin, MuRF-1, and Atrogin-1). In this study, blueberry water extract was found to suppress Dex-induced sarcopenia. We first measured extracted blueberries with cool water (VCCW) and hot water (VCW) to measured polyphenol content and radical scavenging activity. As a results, VCW had higher polyphenol and radical scavenging activity the VCCW. So, we conducted in vitro and in vivo experiments using VCW.
