We consider an order picking operation with person-following picking carts (PPC) that supports pickers in retrieving orders from the warehouse. The PPC carries orders picked by pickers and provides order information of picking routing and pick locations. Despite of these benefits, however, replacing the manual picking Carts(MPC) with PPC raises; 1) concerns about productivity loss when replacing with PPC, 2) uncertainty of PPC’s return on investment costs. In this paper, we conduct productivity comparison and economic replacement analysis over MPC and PPC. Our simulation model evaluates the system productivity of PPC over MPC. The replacement analysis model determines the economic service life of the system using PPCs.
