This review attempts to examine the relationships between chronic low-grade inflammation and aging processes. Inflammation plays a critical role in the host defence against various microorganisms and pathogens. However, chronic low-level inflammation is associated with various aging processes. Older persons tend to exhibit a pro-inflammatory state. Various variables including genetic factors and the behavioral & environmental circumstances, can have a strong effect on inflammatory cytokines, which is likely to accelerate chronic diseases and aging. Chronic low-grade inflammation may make individuals more prone to developing age-related chronic diseases. Therefore, the aging process can be determined by the outcome of the balance between inflammatory and anti-inflammatory mediators. Autophagy has critical effects on the initiation and regulation of inflammatory reaction. This suggests that understanding the balance between inflammasome activation and autophagy is important to determine therapeutic targeting. Caloric restriction is associated with positive effect as key interventions in the regulations and attenuations of aging processes, DNA damages, inflammatory processes, and age-related disorders. This suggests that the proper regulation of inflammation by caloric restriction in aging can be a major target for the strategies of anti-inflamm-aging remodelling.
