This paper focuses on the case of the “Japan IoT Control Utilization Programming” course operated by the Department of Japanese Language, which operates its own IT convergence curriculum, and examines the operational status of the curriculum and the linkage with the IT convergence curriculum that the department has for itself. By looking into this curriculum in detail, this paper examines the efforts and effects of the Japanese language department to make use of IT convergence in order to help Japanese language undergraduate students start their professional career more successfully. In particular, we present an actual case and experience to understand one aspect of developing the skill set of undergraduate students so that they can prepare for the so-called 4th industrial revolution. Today"s society is facing a sea change at the workplace as artificial intelligence and big data are increasingly in use not only in computer-related fields, but also in a much wider variety of jobs, including office work, sales, and even the service sector. Although Japan has a relatively well-established social infrastructure, it is facing a shortage of talent. In Japan, too, work environment in every corner of the society gradually requires to incorporate new technologies in each field of society as the 4th industrial revolution speeds up. This paper also suggests that IT convergence education is not only for training programmers, but also can be an effective education program for office workers and sales workers given the trend of the time.
