Purpose
Naples prognostic score (NPS) is a scoring system that reflects patient’s systemic inflammatory and nutritional status based on albumin, cholesterol concentration, lymphocyte-monocyte ratio, and neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio. It is known that preoperative NPS was strongly associated with long-term survival in CRC patients, assessment of postoperative NPS before adjuvant chemotherapy are not fully assessed. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate whether postoperative NPS can predict prognosis of stage II-III CRC patients receiving adjuvant chemotherapy compared with preoperative NPS.
Method
Between January 2005 and December 2012, a total of 164 patients who diagnosed stage II or III CRC and received curative resection followed by adjuvant chemotherapy in the Gangnam Severance hospital were evaluated retrospectively. According to the assessing the components of NPS, patients were divided into two groups: group 0-1 (NPS=0-2) and 2 (NPS=3 or 4). Preoperative NPS was calculated by the results before surgeries and postoperative NPS was assessed by results before adjuvant chemotherapy. Survival analyses were calculated by using the Kaplan–Meier method and the log-rank test. Time dependent ROC curve was evaluated. A p-value of less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant.
