This paper studies the poetics of space of Moscow and Varykino which serve as home and a space for nurturing creativity for the main character, Zhivago among various places in Doctor Zhivago, from the perspectives of semantics of revival and its fairy-tale structure. Moscow is the center of the life and the entire novel of the main character, Zhivago. Also, it is the foundational driver of all lives depicted in the novel. In the turn of the century, Moscow was a background of intellectual groups and a stage for political activities that urban laborers participated in. Moscow is significant as a source of those thing necessary and revolutionary for Russia at that time. The importance of Moscow can be found from the semantics of revival which is realized through the place. In this novel where evangelical events become the key to the meaning and footsteps of human history, the time of events and actions is centering around the Easter. In the meantime, Moscow is a space where a great event of resurrection from the gospels is repeated infinitely through the lives and deaths of the main character and others. Another space, Varykino, is studied from the perspective of its fairy-tale structure. Varykino provided Zhivago with the second home after Moscow, and it was a space for nurturing creativity after Moscow. Also, it was the place where he shared love with Lara for the last time. In Varykino, a remote village with different social condition, culture and atmosphere from a large city, Moscow, Yuri Zhivago was able to enjoy a short, pastoral, and creative life. The description about Varykino has strong characteristics of fairy tale and folktale. This can be regarded as a strategy of Boris Pasternak who aimed at realization of miracle and mystery of life and history that transcend logic in his prose, instead of logical and factual description of historic and realistic reality. As Pasternak depicts the latter part of the novel against the background of Varykino like a modern fairy tale, he emphasizes that history is not a continuity and accumulation of objective facts and, rather, history should be understood with personal and specific lives of individuals, like Zhivago, and with the secrets and mysteries in the lives.
