This study was conducted to verify the effect of university students’ motives for major selection on major satisfaction. In particular, as the youth unemployment rate emerged as a social issue, present study was performed to find meaningful solution to decrease the youth unemployment rate by establishing the right values and choosing career paths in universities. The study period was conducted from October 19 to October 30, 2020 for college students majoring in food service in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. As an analysis method, factor analysis was performed to confirm the reliability and validity of the measurement tool, and correlation analysis and regression analysis of difference verification were performed using the statistical program SPSS 20.0 for hypothesis verification. The hypothesis test results are as follows. First, the motivation for major selection had a significant effect on the satisfaction of the major. Second, the motive for major selection had a significant effect on the job preparation behavior. Third, major satisfaction had a significant effect on job preparation behavior. Based on these findings, it was suggested that university need to provide an environment in which students can focus more on their own job preparation behavior in order to increase the degree of satisfaction of college students" majors.
