Since the end of the cold war, 21th century started with many local disputes and it is expanding globally. Compared to peaceful areas, health indicators are getting worse in troubled regions and the Middle East is one of the most affected area. These areas have a history of successful medical activities by Western doctors since the beginning of 20th century. Some of the medical facilities are still active.
The Korean peninsula went through 2 big wars in 20th century and needed foreign aids. However, as the economy flourished in 1970s, Koreans began to serve the nations in needs. Currently, Syrian refugee crisis is the most serious and urgent issue. Korean medical personnels are serving Syrian refugees in various means by cooperating with local communities. Many long term and short term Christian workers are trying to deal with the necessities of the Arabs who became alienated. Unfortunately, the Middle East countries and their Arabic language are yet a big obstacle for professionals to overcome. Especially for Arabic language, classical Arabic is not necessary for health care professionals. Instead, spoken language (Ammiyyah) is enough for communication and more easy to learn.
Nowadays, Korea has a high level of medical care service and is highly competitive to international standards. This means Korean doctors and nurses will have more chances to reach the Middle East in the near future. He who is vigilant to His calling will serve our Lord at the place he is planted and bear fruits.
