It has been required for technical high schools to raise students` adaptability to workplace. The elements of `adaptability to workplace` cover job performance, job satisfaction, and efforts for career development. The purpose of this study is to investigate the adaptability to workplace of craftsmen graduated from technical high schools and to draw implications for the developmental tasks of education in technical high schools and those of in-plant training in industrial firms. Craftsmen report that they lack more in knowledge than in skills and attitudes in performing jobs. This implies that more emphases on knowledge should be given to education in schools and training in industrial firms. Craftsmen show relatively low degree of job satisfaction. This could be one of the blocking factors in raising the adaptability to workplace of craftsmen. Hence, more measures by industrial firms should be explored and implemented to upgrade the job satisfaction of craftsmen to help them adapt to workplace. Many of craftsmen want to enter to colleges after they leave workplace. Especially they want to enter to the socially recognized colleges, though the Government has established many sorts of technical colleges such as open university, air and correspondence university, and in-plant university. Accordingly, policy concerned with offering opportunity for craftsmen to enter to colleges should consider the ways to offer the social recognition to technical colleges and to integrate work and learning around workplace of them. Craftsmen show relatively high willingness to participate in in-plant training to upgrade their skills. Therefore, industrial firms should actively implement various in-plant trainings to upgrade skills of craftsmen and to help them develop their career. Schools, also, should offer various information and implement career guidance for students to help them plan and decide their own future career.
