The curriculum for thechnical high schools were greatly changed in its 4th revision `81, and partly amended in its 5th revision `88. An outline of the 6th revised curriculum, which is to be settled in June, 1992, has been almost completed. And (studies and discussions are being made now on) such issues as reform measures of subjects. Especially, to cope with the shortage of technical manpower, a project to promte the fosterage of technical manpower mainly through technical high schools is being carried out now. Therefore, thers is a great necessity to reform the curriculum for technical high schools. This study, therefore, presents several issues to cope with the highly developed industrial structure in relation with the education in technical high schools, reviews the character of education in technical high schools, and then proposes some ideas to implement the curriculum more flexibly. Basic ideas are to be summarized as follows. 1. Technical high school should be one of the final courses within the system of vocational technical education, and it should also be contained within the system of lifelong education so that some qualified students may have the opportunity for higher education. 2. Only the standard courses should be presented in the curriculum, so that integration and new establishment of courses could be made according to the changes in industrial structure or demand and supply of manpower. 3. The organization of specialized subjects should be flexible within the essentials of curricular framework, so that each school or course might organize its own subjects flexibly according to the changes in school, students, or communities. 4. Integrated and practical education in each specialized field should be made through reform measures such as rationalization of the contents and degrees of specialized subjects, minimization of theoretical (specilized) subjects through integration of similar subjects, and unification of theoretical and practical (specialized) subjects.
