The U.S. has been fighting a technological war with the Chinese firm Huawei since the U.S. started a trade dispute in 2018. The research points out limitations of the previous research that approached U.S-China technological war with a macro-political approach. The Macroscopic approach is not easy to explain systemically why the U.S. invoked economic sanctions against Huawei. This research understands this situation with microscopically and argues that the rapid growth of Huawei is a major cause of the US-China technological war.
The U.S. judges China’s encroachment on 5G technology as a big threat. Huawei is the world’s largest manufacturer of communication and 5G equipment, and the world’s second-largest smartphone maker. Recently, Huawei has strengthened its power of influence such as chip set manufacturing, big data analysis and clouds. For these reasons, the U.S. does not stop its sanctions on Huawei despite of the COVID-19 crisis. Huawei’s overwhelming 5G related technology has long-term negative impacts on the US leadership in technological hegemony. As a result of the negative impacts, the U.S. cannot help but waging a total technological war with China.
