This study examines the effect of Korea’s multiple FTAs between Korea and Vietnam by measuring the utility rates and the changes in extensive margin of Korea’s imports. In the presence of the Korea-ASEAN FTA, this study analyzes the economic effects of trade liberalization under Korea’s additional FTA with Vietnam. As Korea’s imports from Vietnam increased significantly after the Korea-Vietnam FTA entered into force in 2015, overall utility rates remains at around 55% during the period of 2016 and 2018. Considering the Korea-Vietnam FTA’s only effect, the utility rate reached 18.2%in 2016 and in 2018 it increased to 27.6%. Still, we find the effectiveness of the Korea-Vietnam FTA through higher utility rate of the major industry like textile/apparel as well as the positive effect on the diversification of imported good in that sector.
