Purpose: The purpose of this study is to apply the theory of organizational autonomy to sports public institutions to derive the linked organization types and to present the necessary implications.
Method: A literature analysis was conducted to achieve the purpose of the study. Subjects to the analysis are the literature data of the sports public organizations (Korean Sport & Olympic Committee, Korea Sports Promotion Foundation, Taekwondo Promotion Foundation, and Korea Paralympic Committee), and the procedures for analyzing the literature in advance and applying the theory of organizational autonomy were carried out.
Results: The results of the application of the theory of organizational autonomy were presented as organizational types (clubs, firms, bureaus, and sovcoms) according to the degree of political control and market control. The results of this study are as follows. First, all four sports public institutions were of the type of bureaus, according to the degree of political control and market control. Even within the bureaus, Korea Sports Promotion Foundation is the type of bureaus with sovcoms character. Korean Sport & Olympic Committee and Korea Paralympic Committee have the type of bureaus with clubs character and Taekwondo Promotion Foundation was close to the type of bureaus with sovcoms character. With the following discussion and implications, Korea Sports Promotion Foundation, the type of bureaus with sovcoms character, and Taekwondo Promotion Foundation, the type of bureaus with sovcoms character, need to examine whether the degree of current market control is appropriate. And the type of bureaus with clubs character, Korean Sport & Olympic Committee and Korea Paralympic Committee, need to review whether the current degree of political control is appropriate.
Conclusion: The results of the study are summarized. And two future research projects have been presented.
